CERTIFICATE III IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CARE

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is designed for those seeking a career in a variety of early childhood education settings. Students will learn to work within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard to support the implementation of approved learning framework and support children’s wellbeing, learning and development. Additionally, students will complete 120 hours of supervised work placement. Upon completion of this qualification, career opportunities include childhood educator assistant, family day care assistant, preschool assistant and outside school hours aide.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The course consists of 18 Units (15 Core Units + 3 Elective Units)

 

Core Units

  • CHCDIV002 Promote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cultural Safety

  • CHCECE001 Develop cultural competence

  • CHCECE002 Ensure the health and safety of children

  • CHCECE003 Provide care for children

  • CHCECE004 Promote and provide healthy food and drinks

  • CHCECE005 Provide care for babies and toddlers

  • CHCECE007 Develop positive and respectful relationships with children

  • CHCECE009 Use an approved learning framework to guide practice

  • CHCECE010 Support the holistic development of children in early childhood

  • CHCECE011 Provide experiences to support children’s play and learning

  • CHCECE013 Use information about children to inform practice

  • CHCLEG001 Work legally and ethically

  • CHCPRT001 Identify and respond to children and young people at risk

  • HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting

  • HLTWHS001 Participate in workplace health and safety

LOCATION: 83-85 Chandos Street, St Leonards NSW 2065

DURATION: This course will be delivered over 52 weeks (12) months.

WORK PLACEMENT

Students will be required to complete a minimum of 120 hours of work placement at a licensed and registered early childhood service. This work placement will need to be organised by each individual learner. Students, who are having trouble finding a nominated approved workplace, will be provided with assistance by the RTO to locate a suitable facility. Services facilities must meet all state and federal legislative requirements. 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

There are no formal academic requirements for this qualification, however NIVT requires that all learners:

  • Be at least 18 years old;

  • Have the physical capacity to perform sustained CPR for at least two minutes;

  • Have a positive attitude and caring value towards children;

  • Pass a National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check;

  • Participate in a minimum of 120 hours of unpaid work placement;

  • Have existing experience studying in the Early Childhood Education and Care industry;

  • Successfully complete the pre-enrolment interview; and Successfully complete the LLN assessment.    

CREDIT TRANSFER, ASSESSMENT ONLY, RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) 

Competency held by students can be formally assessed against the units of competency in this training package. Relevant competency will be recognised regardless of how, when, or where it is achieved.

For the Assessment Only or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathways, you must provide current and quality evidence of your competency. This process can be directed by you (such as through compiling a portfolio) or by an assessor (through workplace performance observation or oral/written assessment). The evidence will be verified against the corresponding unit of competency in this package by the assessor. If the outcome of this process indicates that you have satisfied the competency, structured training will not be required.
