This course will be delivered over 44 weeks.

Students are required to complete a minimum of 120 hours of work placement at a licensed and registered aged care facility. This work placement will need to be organised by each individual learner. Students, who are having trouble finding a nominated approved workplace, will be provided with assistance by the RTO to locate a suitable facility. Services facilities must meet all state and federal legislative requirements.

There are no formal academic requirements for this qualification, however NIVT requires that all learners:

  • Be at least 18 years old;

  • Have the physical capacity to work as a care worker;

  • Participate in a minimum of 120 hours of unpaid work placement;

  • Successfully complete the pre-enrolment interview including the LLN Assessment; and

  • Pass a National Police Clearance.

Competency held by students can be formally assessed against the units of competency in this training package. Relevant competency will be recognised regardless of how, when, or where it is achieved.

For the Assessment Only or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathways, you must provide current and quality evidence of your competency. This process can be directed by you (such as through compiling a portfolio) or by an assessor (through workplace performance observation or oral/written assessment). The evidence will be verified against the corresponding unit of competency in this package by the assessor. If the outcome of this process indicates that you have satisfied the competency, structured training will not be required.
